is this modem good for voice and internet? I have comcast internet and a telephone line as well

Yes, I have the Ooma Telo connected to the ARRIS SurBoard SB6183 and it work very well, just like the regular digital phone over the internet. Also, my internet provider is Time Warner and currently I have about 24 MPS speed and this modem works great.

Also, this modem connected to the Western Digital MYCloud EX4 (24 TB External Network Drive) and MyCloud EX2 (12 TB External Network Drive) and remote access through the network with the Western Digital WDTV for all my new release Blu Ray Movies.

I would recommended the ARRIS SurfBoard SB6183.

does this support cable phone?

The SB6183 -does not- support phone over cable.  You can still use the SB6183 but will have to retain the other modem that has phone capability and use it in conjunction. (This is the case with Time Warner).  I would give a quick call to your provider to confirm.

Question 3

I have a Linksys dual-band router.  Is this modem compatible with a dual-band router?

As long as the router has a WAN port, it should be fine....

The dual-band spec relates to your private, *wireless*, Local Area Network (LAN), not your public, *wired*, Wide Area Network (WAN) provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) which is a Cable Company, hopefully, in your case, or this modem would be pretty much worthless to you.

You're confusion of technology as apparent in your question indicates you may wish to consult with your local guru before making any networking purchases, friend. I say that with kindness. *smiles gently*

But...

The *better* question is if the 6183 is recognized by your cable company. Some ISP's won't support every single make & model of modem. Find the list of approved modems on your ISP's website, or call them. Seriously.

The good news is this modem is a =beast=, & worth every penny if your ISP OK's it. I'm -very- impressed with it's speed and signal strengths and also it's diagnostics data is quite detailed (it has a built in mini-html-server hosting logs and signal info, etc), and I'm jaded and not easily impressed. :]

Is this modem WI-FI compatible??

Compatible? It does not have Wifi built in...you will need a Wifi capable router. I purchased the Apple AirPort Extreme router to couple with it and working quite well utilizing up to 5G connectivity.

Is this Modem compatible with Apple computer and ATT DSL?

It is compatible with an Apple computer, however it can not be used with any DSL provider.  It must be used with a cable internet provider such as Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Cox, etc.  I can tell you that I use it with Time Warner Cable on the 300Mbps down/20 Mbps up tier and it works great!

Will this modem work with AT&T DSL?

I use mine with Cox Cable.  I doubt if it will work with AT&T DSL since it is a cable modem and not a DSL modem

I live in Cincinnati OHIO and I have Time Warner Internet service. will this work on that service?

Wish I could be more helpful. Mine works fine with Comcast for the web but not for the telephone. Do you Know a Cincy native named Celestino (Chuck) DiBasio? I've been trying to contact my USAF buddy for years. Good luck on Warner, but I would phone their install guy and ask. You would probably save time that way. And, get THE definitive answer.

What is a dual thread processor?

A thread is a single line of commands being processed, normally a processor can only handle 1 line, but this has extra registers etc. to handle two.  I think a synonym is hyper threading.

I bought this modem in a hurry and didn't realize that it did not have built-in WiFi or any wireless capabilities.  As it stands, I can't currently use it because I have multiple devices I need to have connected at once.  I'm debating on returning this item and trying to find a good modem/router combo or if it would be better just to pay the extra cash for a router to go with it.  If I go the way of buying a new router, can anyone recommend a good compatible one?

I'm currently using a wired broadband connection through Time Warner, if that helps.  Any advice would be welcome, as I've never had to set up anything like this before.

You will be much happier with a separate wireless router.  Having your router separate from the cable modem is better because:
1) If the router fails you don't have to replace a more expensive combo unit.
2) You can upgrade to faster wireless over time.
3) You can have multiple wireless networks for "guests" or kids with extra security enabled using a single cable modem.

I'm sure there are many other reasons too.  The downside is that you will need to power both the cable modem and router separately.  Total power is probably close to the combo unit, so not really paying much more in electricity for separate units.

I have had best luck with ASUS and Linksys routers.  Less so with DLINK routers.  There's only a handful of AC standard wireless chipsets available now,  so the differences in current models are minor.

It has non-volatile memory si your settings won't be lost, but if the unit loses power it won't work until power is returned (no battery)
