Does this drive include transfer/cloning software or a link to download it?

Not that I saw or remember. I wipe all drives as soon as I get them. trust me just do a fresh wipe and reinstall windows then your programs. Cloning/imaging is more for setting up many identical machines -vs- just one machine. It has issues and it is always easier and quicker to just re install everything.

Is this a solid state drive?

No.  A solid state drive will have "SSD" in the title and will likely cost 3-5 times as much as a traditional hard drive.

My computer's hd died the other day. It had a 640 GB toshiba MK6465GSX. That hd specs were  
Interface: SATA 3.0Gb/s
Cache: 8MB
RPM5,400
Dimensions: 3.9" x 2.8" x 0.4"

Is this hd compatible? I know it has less storage space, but I checked here for the exact same hd and the reviews were horrible, so i don't want to risk it again. Also this one's specs aside for the storage space are better and it's cheaper. So will I be able to replace it with this one with no problem?

Yes, for future reference, when looking at upgrading your hard drive you want to look at having the same Interface and very similar dimensions. You also want it to have a larger cache for multitasking and faster rpm for boot speed of OS and applications/programs. This drive has been great so far, no hiccups or anything.

The thing to consider is how are you going to transfer your files over from the old drive to the new? If you are doing a fresh install of Windows then it doesnt matter but if not its something to consider since you are going from a 640 down to a 500. There is a great program from Easeus thats free or if you want to pay for one Acronis TrueImage is good too.

will this work on my inspiron N5110?

I'm not that familiar with the Inspiron N5110. If the current drive is SATA and the laptop BIOS will accept drives with this capacity then it should work.

Check Dell's site and get the specifics for your laptop as to the maximum size hard drive the BIOS will recognize. Make sure you purchase the 2.5" drive so it will fit.

You will have to partition and format the drive before it can be used.

A 7mm 2.5" drive should fit into just about any laptop that takes a 2.5" drive. However, in my opinion, you might want to consider an SSD for better performance. "SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series 2.5" 500GB SATA III V-NAND 3-bit MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-76E500B/AM". I hope this helps.

I can think of no reason why this drive would not work. The BLACK should be a better quality drive than your original BLUE. The difference in disk capacity should not present a problem either. Good Luck. Vern F.

According to the specs of the HP DV6 original HD, it would fit the space and is a SATA connected drive. It should perform well as it has a little better specs than the original equipment.

I use a Lenovo E540, a different model and line, but made during a comparable period.

My E540 mounts its thin 500GB drive in a carrier, which then mounts inside my notebook.  To the best of my knowledge, every manufacturer has done this for years to minimize problems of replacing drives.

This WD Black drive is a single-platter thin drive - same as the original drive supplied by Lenovo.  The carrier lets new type thin drives replace thicker drives from several years ago, ensure sata & power connector line-up.

My bet is that, when you open up your ThinkPad, you will observe that it is a thin drive in a carrier.  Good fit is a certainty.

Even if it is an older, thicker two-platter design, this drive will still fit if your current drive is mounted in a carrier:  The side mount holes are in precisely-machined identical positions which allows easy replacements and upgrades.

Hello, my question is,I bought a windows 8 laptop, I would like to know if there is a hard drive that is compatible with windows 8? If it matters,my laptop was bought brand new in 2012,I have to a 500 gb hard drive but do computer companies make hard drives for windows 8? My laptop shuts down on me while I'm on it at the most inopportune times,I was told that it could be either the battery or the hard drive.

I need to replace a WD Scorpio Blue model WD1600BEVT-00M9YT0.  Will this drive be compatible?  It is a larger capacity and a faster SATA but will it work?

Generally SATA is backwards compatible.

However, some laptops are limited in the bios to the size hard drive that is supported.

It would be best to check the laptop's support documentation online first.  If that model had a version with a 500gb it should work, but not always.

Plus be sure that the drive is the same height.  You don't want it to bulge out or rattle around!
