Question 1

It says that the cord length is 11.48 feet. Is that correctly labeled? Eleven and a half feet seems long for headphone cords, but maybe I'm just not aware of how they're made these days.

Yes the JVC R%X-700 is 11 1/2 feet long. I've had them for a couple of moths now and I would say that they are not Bose headphones but for the price and I was looking for a full over the ear model I found in my searches and reading many reviews that these made out to be about the best. Some reviewers did mention about them being a bit tight on the ears. I suppose if you are not use to wearing over the ear type then maybe. But for me they fit perfect on my ears. Now if you plan on wearing these for more than 3-4 hours at a time they might get a little warm. Your ears not the headphones! I only wear them at night for about 2-4 hours max. So I couldn't honestly say how comfy they would be for any longer than that. I also only wear them for watching tv and a little music but mostly for tv. So I would say that they a a very good pair.  I forgot to review these and I will copy this into a review in a moment.

They are adjustable by the way. Also the headband is metal so they won't break like a pair I had a few years ago. They are very well padded.

The ear cups seem to be very comfy. JVC says they are replaceable but I wouldn't know that for sure.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another set, and am considering that, to replace my computer headphones.

Are they compatible with Ipods?

The headphones use a 1/8 inch jack, which most portable players, including iPods, use, and included is a 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch adapter (1/4 jacks are generally used on larger players such as receivers and boomboxes).  So the answer is yes, you can use these with practically any audio device.  Note that these headphones are very large, thus not very portable, so they're not very practical to take with you jogging or on a trip, but they're great to use at home.

Does this product have an independent volume control?

No, this headphones doesn't have an independent switch for volume control, but it does produce excellent sounds when it's plugged into your fav device!

Question 4

Do these leak sound? If I get these and play music at loud volumes, will others around me hear it at all?

Yes, they do. They have decent isolation, but I've had cans with better.

Question 5

Does anybody wear glasses with these?  If so are they still comfortable or do they "pinch"

I rarely wear glasses, but when I do, they seem to work ok. If they work with your glasses, these headphones work better than they have any right to for their price. The sound quality is great (you can actually hear lows) and after acclimating to the weight, they are quite comfortable (the cloth bridge that rests on your head works pretty well).

Are these noise cancelling, and if so do they cancel noise well?

They are not noise cancelling 'per se', but they reduce outside noise a lot as they have a lot of insulation in them.

I have 2 noise cancelling headphones with batteries, JVC & Sony, and they both have a low 'hum' which I do not like. This JVC headphone is better than the 2 noise cancelling headphones I have and I have purchased 3 pair because I feel they are great in this price category.

Do the ear cups fit COMPLETELY around your ears? I do not want them resting on my ears or touching them in anyway.

This really depends how large your ears are. You can rotate the cushion so it will fit around the shape of your ears better. Mine fit inside the cups with very minimal contact, I'm over 6 feet tall and have a reasonably large sized head and ears.

Question 8

I have an HP probook laptop.  Will the above hook up to that?

It should, it plugs into both my desktop and laptop headphone jack, it has a normal sized headphone jack. So unless your laptop has an oddly mutated hookup you should be fine. If you can plug in other headphones then these will work. Enjoy!

are they comfortable on the ears?

Depends on what you are used to wearing.

These are a little tight, but actually for me just right.
I hate headphones that are too loose fitting. I have found over the years that this pair is looking pretty good for overall wear-ability. They have metal parts at the stress points. The head band is comfortable with some adjust-ability.

I wear them for about 5 hours at a time and they don't give me a problem. But I do notice they start to get a little uncomfortable after around 6 or so hours of wearing them. If you wear them all day then I'm sure they will get uncomfortable.

Also the cord is not removable.

I've always had problems with the material on the ear cups cracking and eventually coming off. I have had this problem especially with the Sony brand. But so far not with the JVC's.

If you can deal with a little firmness of the fit then these should work.

They are not super high in sound quality but for the price they are good enough for me. They sound great to me either music or TV or gaming they are perfect for me anyway.

Question 10

What would I have to buy I. Order to have a 4 foot long cord for portability instead of the 12 foot one?

Since this cord is wired into the device you would either have to cut the cord shorter and wire it yourself, or just bunch it up and tie it with a twist tie.
