Can I use this cable to extend the image from my laptop onto two monitors or does it clone?

Most of the laptops have built in functions that will allow you to define your display on multiple monitors. For me I used this cable to extend my display to a projector where I could have private access to my applications why allowing the room to view the PowerPoint slide show.

Short answer is that it isn't the cable but the OS that will allow you to do this. So as long as the video card can support a second display you should be ok. (Most all current, within the last 3 years, will support at least 2 monitors)

will this support splitting a signal to a monitor at 144hz and a streaming pc (using and hdmi adaptor for output 2)?

It does not work!.  I tried to split signal to two monitors, I never could make it work.

Question 3

Will this splitter only support mirroring or will it allow you to utilize both monitors separately?

It will only mirror.
