Question 1

I'm not exactly sure how networked printers work, Can i network this through my house without having it plugged into a proprietary host computer?

The 'N' in the model number indicates that it can be used on a wired network.  If you have a router with LAN ports, the printer can be connected with a normal LAN cable.  It will pick up the IP address via DHCP, or by manual input.  Your computer should be on the same network, so loading the printer driver on your computer using the network option should make the connection easy.

There is NO wireless capability on this model.

IF the printer is located away from your primary computer and the network, using a proprietary host computer with a USB cable is about the only way to make it work.  That pretty much results in a very inconvenient sneaker net system.

My house is fully wired with drops in every room.  The LAN cable connection was very simple.

I also have a Brother HL-3170CDW that is connected using the built in wireless, and it's located across the room from the wired network connection, and it works perfectly.

I bought the 7360 without realizing that it did not have a wireless capability, but was able to work around it by locating it near the LAN outlet.

Does this come with toner?

Yes, it comes with a starter cartridge which has less toner than a standard cartridge.  As I recall, the starter yields approximately 60% of the standard.

I assume this is monochrome, not color?

Yes, it is monochrome.  However, the prints are quite clear, and the setup wizard is much better than other laser printers in it's class.

Is this a wireless printer?

No it isn't. You'll have to look at the models with a 'W' in them (i.e. Brother MFC-7860DW).

Is it a color printer? It says it does color scanning, what about printing?

No, it doesn't print in color. This printer is a good solution for somebody who needs to print large numbers of documents at home inexpensively; my family has been very happy since I replaced the old inkjet with this and they haven't missed the color at all.

how does this work with IMac?

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question. I'm using it on Ubuntu. If you haven't already, scour the internet for use for your IMAC. I did that prior to buying to make sure it would work with Ubuntu.

Is this a wireless printer?

Haven't tried it yet. I'm pretty sure there is an app you can download so it will interact wirelessly with devices but I think the printer itself has to be hard wired. The model they made a year later is definitely wireless but it is twice the price right now. Just got mine for light office use. Really happy with it though.

It has PC fax. Does that mean you don't need a land line??

Although I haven't needed to use that function yet, it is capable of both phone line direct fax, or using your internet connection, through the control interface on your computer, of using an internet fax service.  You don't need the land line, but it is capable of both, and the control interface is rather well designed.

Is the scanner a multi-page scanner?  If yes, how many pages will it handle at once?

The advertising says it has a 35-page scanning capacity; but I would never put that number of pages through it in at one time, unless the tops of all the pages are uniform with absolutely no torn edges or any other abnormality.  Doing so tends to jam the system in the middle of the scan and you could lose the previously scanned pages.

Using 5-10 clean pages has been working for our users and the machine works great.  I also have the previous version; and it has been working flawlessly for over a year now.  It scans, copies, and prints upon demand.  I am happy with both systems.
