Will this fit in an Alienware X51?

Where do the brackets belong? On the top/face of the MB around the CPU which seems logical but doesn't work or on the bottom?  Placing the brackets on the bottom works but seems dangerous to the board.

The brackets go on the back of the motherboard. Modern motherboards intentionally do not feature contact points in the zone around the CPU socket to allow for backplates and brackets.

The brackets and backplates usually feature a thin rubber cushion or thin layer of adhesive to ensure the motherboard is not scratched, but neither adhesive or cushion are necessary so long as you don't wiggle or rub the bracket back and forth.

This method of mounting is actually considerably superior to the push-pin method or lever method as it applies more force, more evenly to secure the cooler to the CPU. The screw mechanism also supports considerably more weight than the push-pin method, allowing for larger, heavier coolers.
