I agree with the previous answer to this question.  This is a modem device and it connects to your internet cable provided from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Your router device will be connect to the modem and all other devices connect to the router's LAN or Wireless connection.  The router creates your home network.  Modem's are required to connect to your Internet Service Provider. This is a good modem...I have one. -a

I would like to replace my current cable modem/Wi Fi router, which I rent from Comcast. If I bought this, would it do the trick or do I also need a Wi Fi modem as well?

Hello Brian, This item is strictly a high speed modem, it does not include a wifi router. You would need to purchase a standalone router to create and protect your home network. There are modem/router combo units available but make sure it supports DOCSIS 3.1. -Art

What is the upload speed rated for ?

Upload depends on your ISP's cap. I know that Xfinity has a significant cap on uploads speeds. Theoretically, the upload should be capable of 2Gbps when using link aggregation.

Sorry if this is a bit overlapping, but I´m not sure the question for my particular use case was answered yet. Apart from the fact that this modem has no WiFi, does it have a Router with Firewall and DHCP server build into it? In other words, would I be able to move my old WiFi router to a location where it provides better coverage, and run it in Access Point Mode (more in the center of the house)?

Your router is required at your modem location (its ethernet cable plugs into the LAN port on the modem). You will have to buy a separate router to create an access point or Mesh.

I understand that this is a modem and not a router, but does it allow multiple devices to connect directly to the internet? IE, if I plug a PC directly into one Ethernet port, and I plug a router into the other, will they both have internet access (without the PC being able to reach devices behind the NAT router of course). More to the point, in the scenario I just described, would I have two separate public IP addresses? If the scenario I described does not work... what functionality does having four ports offer over having just one?

Yes, the more LAN ports the modem has, the more devices can be connected directly to the modem. Since you have 4 ports, 4 devices can be connected to it. Definitely recommend purchasing a router to allow more devices access to your LAN or internet.

So i am trying to replace our cable modem provided by ISP called Grande would this work and 4 ethernet ports behind would work like router or am i correct in saying that each of those 4 ports have to be independently have static ip address ? ...any help would be appreciated...thanks...sam

Hello, This device is strictly a high speed modem. You would need a router for each port behind this device to protect your network, however, your IP would only assign one IP address so any additional routers would just add additional bandwidth to your network and not additional IP addresses.
