Question 1

It says that it has serial port option.  Does this unit come with a serial port already installed?

It has mounting bracket and space for a serial port but my unit did not include a serial port because I didn't want that option. I also don't see where it would be plugged into the motherboard, but I'm not an expert on that. If you select the serial port option, then it had better come pre-installed.

Question 2

Can anyone confirm if this drive is compatible? Or maybe recommend another hard drive? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA12K3UA7517 It's the "SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 500GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal SSD Single Unit Version MZ-N5E500BW" with a "M.2" form factor and a SATA-III interface.

Hi Jason,

I haven't done any builds with that specific unit and form factor, but have used other Samsung 850 EVO drives up to 1 TB. I think the NUC is somewhat forgiving regarding disk compatibility, but memory is another matter. You must stay to spec and use the memory sticks recommended on the Intel web site or recommended on blogs. Hope this helps.

Description says BLKNUC5i5MYHE has vPro, have you setup vPro/AMT and does it work well?

I've setup vPro/AMT on these systems.  It was a little more complicated than I would have liked to get it configured in Linux.  But it's done and it works well for both remote access via VNC, as well as remote power management ("fencing") for cluster support and OpenStack.

Question 4

It says that it supports 3 monitors, but with only two display ports, how?

I see some others have 2 display ports and 1 hdmi port and that I get. 1 display port to vga adapter for two VGA monitors and then the hdmi out to a tv using the hdmi port.

But with two display ports, how does one get three independent displays.

Monitors I have are currently 2 VGA / HDMI 27" monitors and a 60" HDMI TV that I occasionally will use.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

Display Port has something called "Multi-Stream Transport" that lets you go from the device to the first monitor, then from the first monitor to the second monitor, and thus lets you have 2 Display Port monitors daisy-chained together.
