I use the cable to connect my laptop to TV screens when I travel to watch movies. I notice that it's the television that causes frustration, aspect ratios, resolution, menus, and such that are the problem for me. Otherwise, I find the cable works very well and is perfect for setting things up and not having to sit in front of the TV to mess with the laptop!

Yup. Cables rarely discriminate about source/destination unless you are trying to transfer files from a PC to a non-PC peripheral, such as a video camera.

Q: is this display port 1.2 to HDMI 1.4 cable? I am connecting a Nvidia K620 video card to a LG 4K 55" monitor.

This cable for me didn't pass the audio through to the monitor but the issue could be related to the display port on the pc is older and did not support the audio pass through.

Display Port is a network
HDMI source can't join that network.
a video card with DP can negotiate a connection to >ONEONE<  HDMI screen, you just need wire with matching ends molded on.
