Question 1

Users complain that a button must be pressed on the monitor to wake from sleep. Can this be corrected by changing the deep sleep setting in the menu?

Accepted Answer

This was the case at first, but after a google search for the issue I found a setting that was recommended (can't remember exact what it was that ended up doing the trick) and they now always come on with the computer when returning from sleep.

From what I could gather it seems this is a more and more prevalent issue as manufacturers are forced into higher power savings.

Nice to know we're able to get around it.

And to add - these displays are incredible!

I am using this monitor on a Windows 10 Pro x64 desktop with no issues. The sleep functionality works as expected.

is this a good monitor to run with the gtx 970 video card?

In most cases, yes. I have a G1 Gaming 970 and it runs all the games very well at 1440P. A few games that give the card a little trouble are Far Cry 4, GTA5, and most recently The Division. Some settings have to be turned down a little bit at 1440P to ensure 60 FPS. BUT, I must say, that GSYNC does wonders when the FPS drops below 60. Seriously, Its really hard to notice the frame dips with GSYNC.  I only start to notice hiccups when the frame rate drops below 35.  To seriously max out all games 1440P, you should probably SLI two 970's.

Does this have built-in speakers?

No, on the bottom of the monitor there are vents the look like they hold speaker but those are to help with the cooling of the monitor.

I am building my first computer, and my motherboard is the MSI B150 Mortar. On the listed specifications it says the following for onboard graphics.
 • 1 x HDMI™ ports, support a maximum resolution of 4096x2160@24Hz, 2560x1600@60Hz
• 1 x VGA port, supports a maximum resolution of 2048x1536@50Hz, 2048x1280@60Hz, 1920x1200@60Hz
• 1 x DVI-D port, supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1200 @60Hz

Does the above mean that I will not be able to run anything past 60Hz frame rate even if I have a EVGA GTX 970 SSC 2.0+ ?

Your 970 has display port and that runs the full 144 hrz at 1440p that the monitor supports.  I'm going to be honest with you too.  I run dual 970s in Sli and most games I can't max out at this resolution.  Just as long as you hit above 75 fps you'll love how things look and feel with gsynch and high refresh rates.  Just don't be afraid to go to medium settings. You are pushing double the resolution as 1080p

Can you turn off the power indicator light in the menu?

I don't recall seeing an option to turn the indicator light off but I don't notice it while using it. When off/standby it slowly blinks or breaths which I think is cool. The one thing I did notice is that the factory default "deep sleep" mode made the monitor not wake upon mouse or keyboard input. Many online threads complaining about this but it's an easy on screen menu to disable the deep sleep mode and it fixed itz

how does 1080 p look on this monitor  for web browsing etc. ?

Pretty good.  If you have a decent video card, you can definitely set the refresh at 144mhz.  The text doesn't look as sharp though.  But still very readable!  I'm using a GTX1070 and I have the refresh set to 120mhz at it's native resolutoin.  Looks very fluid on Win10 pro.  Hope this helps?

Is a GTX 1070 enough for this monitor?

Yes, a 1070 would be fine.  You may not be able to get to the full 144 fps depending on the game you are playing and the quality settings.  For reference I run this monitor with a 1080 and get around 100-130 fps playing overwatch on maximum settings and it looks fantastic.

Since HDMI can only display 60fps and this is a 144hz monitor shouldnt it come with a DVI port? Or does it?

Accepted Answer

The monitor comes with both an HDMI port and a Display Port.  To get the full 144Hz refresh rate, you will need to use the Display Port and included Display Port cable.

Question 10

I cannot get the usb ports to power my mouse or keyboard, any suggestions?

You have to make sure to plug in the included USB 3.0 connector from the monitor to the computer. Then the USB ports should be fully functional.
