Hi,

Would this work for a Server that runs 24/7, and is it compatible with Windows 8.1?

Eddie,

This drive will work with Windows 8.1 as will almost any new hard drive.  However, this drive is intended to put in a "Network Attached Storage" device known as a NAS.  Usually it is grouped with like 2 or 4 of them together and they work in a tandem sort of environment.  Unfortunately however, these "Red" series from Western Digital have been plagued  with failure problems.  If you read people reviews on Newegg, you'll quickly see what I'm talking about.  My recommendation would be spend a little more and purchase a Western Digital Black: WD4003FZEX (I own tons of these - they work great!)
OR Western Digital's RE which is an Enterprise Drive: WD4000FYYZ

Will this work in a Drobo FS raid my son set up for me?

From the Drobo Web Site..The Answer is Yes.
I highly recommend the Premium WD drives. I use 16 of these drives in 3 QNAP Raid 5 NAS servers.

with this being a red pro would i have difficulties backing up 3 disks on it insted of the 8 to 16?

The spec is telling you this WD Red is designed to go into a 8-16 Bay NAS.
You can use it as a 2nd back up drive, which is what it sounds like you are doing.
You can back up as many drives as you like to it, just as long as you do not exceed the capcacity of the drive.
You should not have any issues with this steller drive!

Can the WD Red Pro 4TB NAS Hard Drive be used in a 2 bay NAS RAID configured setup?

Yes I have (2) of these drives running under RAID 1 in my QNAP TS-269L. Great drive and the 5 year warranty gives me some piece of mind.

does the wd red 4tb hdd come with 128 mb cache???????

Robert they do not make a 128MB Cache. I purchased 8 of these on August 6, 2014 and they are still up and running great in my raid.

You should check Drobo's website for support Hard Drives. I am currently using it with a QNAP TS0870. It is a supported HD for the NAS per QNAP's documentation.
