I this a touch screen monitor for Windows 8?

This is not a touch screen monitor - it will work with the Windows 8 operating system, but NOT in touch screen mode (that technology is much more expensive than the price of this monitor).

Question 2

Based on some of the pictures, it seems that the monitor can be moved down very close to its base. Is that correct?

The monitor height is not adjustable.  However, it is naturally very close to the base.  The top of the monitor is about 14.5" from my desk top.  And the monitor does not tilt as the picture seems to show.  It is almost totally vertical (which is good in my opinion).

Does this monitor pivot to portrait mode or can it be mounted to a portrait stand?

This monitor does not include a stand that allows it to go into portrait mode. However it does have the four universal screw holes on the back. With that being said, this monitor can be attached to any mounting solution you desire. Hope this helps Don. By the way I love my Viewsonic :)

is the stand fixed or can the monitor be tilted?

It can be tilted.  I have two of these and am very happy with picture, sound and the ability to tilt.

does it come with cords needed?

It came with a power cable and VGA cable for hookup. If you want HD quality I'd recommend getting a DVI cable.

I recently purchased an HP 110-210 computer. Is this monitor compatible with it?

If your computer has VGA or DVI out then you should have no problem. Most computers tend to have at least VGA out, which this monitor supports.

Question 7

I have a graphics card on my G4 Mac that has a DVI jack.  Are all DVI jacks the same?   Also, do you provide the cord to the monitor?
Do I have to buy any kind of special adapter?

I have a friend, an oncologist, who, due to his photography hobby, uses Photoshop on his Mac and on a monitor like this one. As far as I know, the DVI jacks are the same - the one on this computer is identical to the one on my friend's Mac. If there would be a case which would require a different plug, Newegg probably has the correct adaptor. You'll like the speed and dazzling resolution and clarity this monitor offers. My monitor came with a DVI cable, if memory serves. If not, they are not expensive. I do recommend spending some time manually setting up your monitor, i.e., color temperature, resolution,etc. Once you have these parameters set up to your liking, you - as happened with me - will probably never have to set them again. So far, no dead pixels or color fading at all. It runs just as it did the day I installed it.

does it have hdmi input?

NO. The connections are listed in the Spec tab at Newegg, they are VGA and DVI.  I replaced the large, heavy, vacuum tube monitor on my PC.  The speaker(s) are small with little amplification so the volume will be low.

Excellent buy for my use.

does this monitor come with an HDMI cable or an HDMI adapter?

Mine did not come with a HDMI cable, but it did come with an adapter.  I ended up buying a HDMI cable so I could run two monitors at the same time.  I bought a 3 foot one.  Big mistake, it was almost too short.

Question 10

Plan to use this in a well lit office to view spread sheets, where matte screen will cut down reflections.  Hopefully, both the frame and screen do no have that modern glossy glass-like appearance.  Does this screen show reflections of the surroundings while document viewing?

The matte screen really does cut down on reflections.  The frame is glossy black, so you will notice reflections there.  As I'm typing this, I see my hands moving in reflection along the bottom of the monitor.  This screen will cut down on reflection, but not 100%.
