No, it's basically a pair of PCI-e 3.0 x 4devices with data striped across each to achieve almost double the throughput. You'll need PCI-e 3.0 x 8 (8 lanes).

Maybe a silly question... But does this require any power pins? My power supply is currently fully loaded and my storage space is running out. (No more power plugs for SSDs).

Just to confirm: If you buy the 1TB it really has 1TB x 2, but the full 1TB is available for use (minus formatting expense) but it is a mirrored 1Tb inside?  Buy a 4Tb it is really 8Tb RAID 0 so 4Tb usable.  Finally I assume it has utilities to let you know status, condition, and remaining use.  (Cause all these M.2 drives are consumable devices that absolutely will eventually fail depending on the users # of read/write usage)

I will answer of your concerns on failure. Raid 0 has no drive space costs, so a 4 TB model would yes have 2  -  4 Tb drives inside.  Failure of M.2 is on the level of 1.5 million hours mean time between failure (MTBF).  1.5 million hours is equal to 62,500 days is equal to 171.23 years.  It is safe to say you will be utilizing some other storage method before that time has passed. No failure can happen from power surges, and other hardware issues. Had a video card put permanent vertical lines on the monitor( yeah wierd, yet true). But it wasn't the monitor that failed. The video card destroyed it.  Just putting the info out there. Sure you have your reasons to not purchase and that is fine.

is this compatible with an ASUS MAXIMUS VIII GENE motherboard?

THE MANUFACTURER or NEWEGG should be ashamed this was asked in November 2020 and STILL NOT ANSWERED!!!
Frankly I will not buy this product without an answer.  I purchased an Asus brand system (you had to install your own M.2 memory/drives) AND IT DID NOT WORK with their own motherboard.  (Hyper M.2 X16)
