Is it a color printer or black and white?

This is a full color printer and requires 4 toner cartridges, black and 3 colors. I would not classify it as a high quality photo printer but will do a decent job.

does this print work in a 64 bit operating environment?

It will work as an ethernet device and not as USB device.  Set it up as a ethernet device in the printer settings.  A ethernet splitter or router can be used to connect the computer and printer simultaneously to ethernet.

Xerox will be releasing in early 2014 software update for the printer to function as a USB device with 64 bit operating systems such as Maverics.

Question 3

Does this printer have wireless capability? I have poked around and can not find it in the details.

Direct or  network connection only. To make the wireless connection, just connect your printer and wireless router on the same network.

About ten years ago, I worked where we got into a trial with Xerox to try out the then new Phaser line. Back then the ink was basically a big old crayon. C,M,Y & K cubes of ink that melted and produced beautiful quality prints, but again MELTED, So when prints were left in a hot car, they would melt and stick together, becoming unusable. So for our salesmen this printer was not handy. Does the Phaser still use wax, or is the toner a true toner now? TIA.

We purchased the Xerox Phaser 6010 in 2013 and it uses true toners.  When first purchased, the replacement toner cartridges were quite reasonable but recently the prices have escalated so you may want to consider this if you plan to purchase this particular model.

Are the cartridges included? If they are included, are they just sample cartridges like come with most inkjet printers that run out of ink after very little use? I'm tired of buying cartridges for brand new printers. I have heard that laser printers do not dry out and need regular cleaning cycles that waste a lot of ink. Is this true?

They were full carts and lasted over a year for us (limited usage). So, no cleaning and no dry out so far.... replaced only 2 of 4 carts so far with no issues.

Does this printer work with Windows 8?

Yes, I have a combination of Windows 7 and 8 machines including a Windows server 2012 R2 machine and all of them are able to print directly to the printer which I have connect via Ethernet.

Question 7

I do a lot of postcard printing front and back. My question is: How does this handle 60 lbs card stock and is the duplex feature a set up in printer output or something you have to manually change every time or just one time per job.

We print 1500+ double sided 1/2 page postcards for the business using 8.5 x 11 card stock, and want to make sure this is not a real PIA to use for back and front printing?

I had problems with 60 lb. card stock.  It continually said there was a paper jam even though there wasn't.  Ended up inserting the card stock one at a time and had to time it just right.

I didn't use the duplex feature but I recall seeing it.  If it's like the other settings I think you just have to change it per job.  Even so, I usually double check settings every time just to be sure it will print correctly.

I'm afraid you'll find this printer a PITA if you're printing that quantity.  The card stock just won't feed smoothly.

Well, first off, I can't say enough about this printer.  I initially bought it as a printer to just do color printing as I have a black and white laser as well.  However, once I started using this printer - the speed and quality of output for a home/small office printer was very impressive.  I ended up sending my b/w laser with my son back to college.

Now to the ink cartridges - well that has been another pleasant surprise.  First, they last a long time/print many copies and second, I've purchased off-brand cartridges online that once installed have been fully compatible with the printer.  (The cost - all four cartridges for about $75; vs OEM at about $75/cartridge.)

I highly recommend this printer.  I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The printer itself is not postscript. The PDL (Page Description Language) on this printer is host based.

The 6010/N prints on paper, not air. As such, the color prints are excellent quality. The B & W prints (on paper) are very sharp, too.
